Corner Brook -
Maria Park and Nicholas O'Neill want to solve the mystery of the Corner Brook Public Library's summer reading program.
This year's theme is Agent 009. The activities, crafts and reading will centre around spies and mysteries.
The program runs from July 9 to Aug. 20 and registration is July 2. To register before then call 634-0013.
Corner Brook Public Library runs this program every summer for children between the ages of 6 and 12.
Maria, 11, and Nicholas, 10, both students at C. C. Loughlin Elementary School, have been involved in the program for the past couple of years.
Last year, in keeping with the theme, a pirate party where participants had to look for treasure was held to finish off the year.
Maria's favourite book of all time is "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" by C.S. Lewis.
She also likes Encyclopedia Brown and Stevie Diamond books.
"Sometimes if they don't give enough detail, you can kind of create the story yourself and feel like you're in it," Maria said. "If you're having a tough day and you need to escape, you can just read a book and feel like you're in it."
Nicholas likes Stevie Diamond books and The Hardy Boys. He said the theme this year really suits him.
"I've had a bunch of favourite books, but I can't think of one that would be my favourite," Nicholas said. "I like detective books, adventure and mystery."
