CORNER BROOK — The rumour mill began spitting out hints last week and Monday it was confirmed that rock legends Deep Purple are coming to Corner Brook.
The band, famous for its anthemic hit “Smoke on the Water,” will be playing the Pepsi Centre on Feb. 3.
The band will be kicking off its Smoke on the Nation Tour at Mile One Centre in St. John's the night before. The tour dates announced Monday include 17 shows across Canada, finishing of in Vancouver on Feb. 26.
Led by vocalist Ian Gillan and the rock-solid rhythm section of drummer Ian Paice and bassist Roger Glover, Deep Purple is now rounded out by guitarist Steve Morse — the former Kansas guitar player who replaced the iconic Ritchie Blackmore in 1994 — and keyboardist Don Airey, who took over from retired keys player Jon Lord in 2001.
Deep Purple, which has released 20 albums since 1968, has sold more than 100 million records in more than four decades of recording and performing.
Tickets for the Corner Brook and St. John’s go on sale Saturday.
