After all the years representatives from Corner Brook have attended cruise symposiums throughout North America, the city finally has a chance to showcase itself at one of its own.
The Port of Corner Brook will host the 16th Annual Canada New England Cruise Symposium from June 11-13.
Corner Brook has landed its turn within the rotation for the event that moves between its five partner organizations with the Canada New England alliance — Atlantic Canada Cruise Association, Cruise Maine, Cruise the St. Lawrence, Cruiseport Boston, and New York Cruise.
“We are really excited,” said Nora Fever, business development manager for the port. “We are hopeful we will have good attendance, and be able to showcase the province, but also our region in particular.”
The goal of the Canada New England Cruise Symposium is to highlight Canada and New England as a world-class cruise destination.
Typically, the event attracts cruise line executives and media as well as representatives from ports, destinations, ship agencies, transportation companies and tour providers throughout the Canada New England region. About 150 delegates are expected to participate.
“They will be able to experience our destination first-hand,” Fever said. “That is important for the cruise lines, who are coming here or considering coming here, but also important for all the partners we work with in Canada New England.”
The symposium program will feature a number of panel discussions covering topics such as itinerary planning, shore excursions and multi-channel marketing. Elements of Newfoundland and Labrador music, culture and cuisine will be featured throughout the event.
Fever recently returned from Cruise Shipping Miami where, along with the usual marketing of the area, she had the chance to promote the symposium.
There has been as high as 15 cruise ship visits in Corner Brook in the past, and Fever would like to get that number back or higher in the future. There will be nine visits this season, and about the same is expected in 2015.
