On Monday, Jakeman All Grade was excited to announce its success in getting a MusiCounts Band Aid Grant that saw the school obtain $10,600 worth of musical instruments.
Sherman Downey and Bill Allan of Sherman Downey and the Ambiguous Case, the Searchlight Award-winning band from Corner Brook, unveiled the newly purchased instruments in front of students, teachers, parents and community members and performed songs from their recent album.
MusiCounts awarded 70 grants this year totaling over $600,000 to support music programs in schools.
Jakeman All Grade was one of two schools in Newfoundland and Labrador to receive this award this year, the other being Leary’s Brook Junior High in St. John’s.
Tech teacher Vanessa Pittman-Baker completed the application and Gary Bennett Music in Corner Brook delivered the instruments.
Jakeman All Grade is now the proud owner of Yamaha piano, acoustic guitars, snare drums, tambourines, glockenspiels and a host of rhythm instruments.
