Premier Danny Williams said last week he might tag along with federal cabinet minister Peter MacKay if he flew over the proposed site of the Lower Churchill hydro project.

The premier says MacKay - who represents the interests of this province in cabinet - has a great interest in the project ... and especially in moving the power to the Maritime provinces.

Having a promoter in Ottawa might just speed up the process of getting it built and producing power.

Planning for the billion-dollar project is plodding along but it will take a big financial investment to get it off the ground.

Ottawa should be more than willing to put money into the Lower Churchill.

Canada is under pressure to cut its carbon output and this relatively clean project would move the country in the right direction.

Besides that, it's a great financial investment for Canadian taxpayers.

Hydro power is going to be a hot commodity when the world climbs out of the present recession.

North American industry will be needing power when factories begin ramping up and producing again.

The price of oil is sagging now but that won't likely last.

As conditions improve, oil consumption will spike and so will prices.

The Lower Churchill project is a sure winner on many levels and it's time to get it off the ground.
