  • Details : This week at Films from Away we have a feature from Australia that tells a story which resonates with part of Canada’s history as well. Set in the early 1930s, it recounts how young aboriginal and “half-caste” children were torn from their families and sent to “re-education” centres. This particular story is about three children who decide that they want to walk back to their home community – which is 1200 kilometres of barren land and desert away. It is based on a true story. Their courage is in stark contrast to the brazen and heartless certainty of the Australian government’s “Chief Protector of Aborigines,” who orders the children to be tracked and returned. All are welcome. Free.
