  • Details : This week (March 15-23) is Multiculturalism Week. But at Films From Away, every week is multiculturalism week! We will celebrate by showing "Monsieur Lazhar," a celebrated and Oscar-nominated film from Quebec. It begins with a tragedy. An elementary school teacher has hanged herself. In order to quickly replace her in the classroom, the school hires Monsieur Lazhar, a recent immigrant from Algeria. As the students attempt to heal from their traumatic loss, their teacher is also struggling with adjusting to Canadian culture, and to his own past. It is by giving to others who are in pain that we can come to terms with our own losses. Tender, gentle and transcendent. All are welcome. Free.
