Inside Llewyn Davis (film)

  • Place : AS2026, Grenfell Campus
  • Time : 19:00
  • Contact : iemke@grenfell.mun.ca
  • Details : Just in time to celebrate the end of another term, Films from Away is showing a remarkable new feature that you won’t likely get to see on the major screens in our region…! Besides, our screen is as big as any others. And the floor isn’t sticky. Let’s not mince words here. Joel and Ethan Coen have made some of the most engaging and powerful films to come out of the US over the past couple of decades. They are so good, one forgets that they are American. That’s just how good they are. (Kidding…!) Their latest film is called “Inside Llewyn Davis,” and it showcases a week in the life of a brilliant but troubled folk singer, struggling in New York in 1961. It is loosely based on the lives of certain folksingers who will remain anonymous. As you would expect, it is a cracking script, brilliant film-making and wonderful music. This will do for folk music what the Coen Brothers’ film “Oh Brother Where Art Thou” did for bluegrass…! And that is a good thing. Creative young artists, slick promoters, stray cats. It’s all there. All are welcome. Free.
