How much does a digital subscription cost?

An online-only subscription to, which includes The Western Star’s E-edition, costs $7.96 plus tax per month plus tax or $95.52 plus tax per year. For print subscribers to The Western Star, access to and the E-edition in included in your subscription fee.



What is a digital subscription and why should I get one? 

A digital subscription gives you unlimited access to all content on In addition to what you find in our print edition, our website offers a wide range of additional features designed to make your digital subscription worth buying. Among them: 
• Breaking news (when it happens, not the morning after) 
• Photo galleries 
• Videos and slideshows 
• Reader comments 
• And more…



How do I access my digital subscription?

Once you purchase your digital subscription, you will be logged in to your account from the device you used to purchase the subscription. You don’t have to do anything else to access the content on the website. However, if you switch to another device or clear your saved login data, you may see the message asking you to subscribe. If that happens, simply click the “Sign In” button on the top left corner of that screen and enter your e-mail address and the password you selected.



What if I don’t want to purchase a digital subscription? Will I be blocked from the site?

No. You will still have access to 6 free articles, photos, videos or slideshows every 30-day period. Upon reaching your limit, you will be asked to subscribe. If you don’t want to subscribe, you can revisit our site during the next 30-day period to access your 6 free articles. Some of our content, like the homepage, section fronts of our site, and classifieds will always remain free for any to access. These pages, however, only include a small portion of the overall stories.



Why has The Western Star started charging for online access?

Newspapers across the country are witnessing a migration of their readers from print to online. They, and we, can no longer reasonably expect to support our online franchise through advertising revenue. As a result, we’ve opted for a “metered” approach, in which casual readers get 6 articles for free every 30-days. Our most avid online readers are asked to pay a modest fee to continue reading, and print subscribers, who are some of our most loyal customers, are entitled to access the website’s content and the E-edition, a digital replica of the newspaper, at no additional charge.



What is Press+?

Press+ is our e-commerce system for digital subscriptions. When you subscribe to you will create a Press+ account, and Press+ will charge your credit card for the subscription amount. The charge will appear on your credit card statement as “Press Plus” in the amount you have selected for your subscription. For further information on managing your Press+ account, see the Account Management FAQ below.



If I have a computer at home and a computer at my office, do I need to purchase two digital subscriptions?

No. You can log in using your account username and password from wherever you access the Internet. 



Can everyone in my household use the same account?

Yes, you can use the same account for all your family members.



I am an administrator at a business, university, library, or nonprofit organization. Am I eligible for a bulk discount?

What is an E-edition?

The E-edition is a digital copy of the daily newspaper which can be read on your tablet, laptop or desktop. The E-edition has several features within its pages including a reading translation in several languages, sharing among social media services and more.



Is access to the e-Edition included in my digital subscription?

Yes. If you enter the account information for your digital subscription when prompted, you will gain access to our e-edition. 



Is the popup “subscribe” window a secure URL? 

Yes. If you right-click on the window and “view frame info” or “frame source,” you'll see it's an https URL. 



How will digital subscriptions be billed? 

We accept major credit cards. Subscriptions are billed every 30 days for monthly subscriptions or every 360 days for annual subscriptions. Your subscription renews automatically, and you are charged in advance of each billing cycle unless you cancel. Note: Because Press+ is managing the billing for your digital subscription, the charge on your credit card statement will say “Press Plus” rather than The Western Star.



Can I pay by check, invoice, or PayPal? 

No. All payments are via credit card.



What is the cancellation policy? 

You will be able to cancel your subscription at any time. When you cancel, we will stop charging your account the following billing cycle. Your unlimited access will continue for the remainder of the current 30-day period. Afterward, you will still be able to view 6 articles per month on at no charge, just like any other visitor.



Account Management FAQ 

How do I sign in to my account once I’ve subscribed?  You are automatically signed in as soon as you subscribe; there isn’t anything further you need to do. If you are prompted with a message to subscribe at a later time, you can log in with the account you created. If you subscribed at one computer and would like to sign in at a different computer (e.g. home and work computers), go to and click “Sign In.” The “Sign In” button is not the same as the “Login” link in the grey bar near the top right of the page. The “Login” link is for those who are bloggers on



How do I access my digital subscription account?

To access your account, follow these steps:

What do I do if I forgot my password? 

To reset your password, follow these steps:

3. Enter your email address and click “Submit.” This will send you an email with a link to reset your password. 

4. After clicking the link, you will be prompted to enter and reconfirm your new password. 

5. Click “Submit” and your password will be updated 



How do I modify my payment information? 

To modify your payment information, follow these steps: 

1. Click “My Account” at

2. On the “Account Summary” page, select “Modify Payment Information”

3. Confirm that the cardholder name and billing area code of your credit/debit card are correct 

4. Enter your card number and expiration date 

5. Click “Submit” and your payment information will be updated

I already have a digital subscription. Why am I seeing the box asking me to subscribe again?

Even if you already have a digital subscription, you may occasionally see the message from Press+ asking you to subscribe. This happens if you use a different computer than the one you used to subscribe, if you clear your browser data, or occasionally may happen automatically to ensure the security of the site. If you see the Press+ prompt after already purchasing a subscription, simply click the “Sign In” tab in the upper right-hand corner of the dialog box and enter your e-mail address and password to log in, using the following steps:
