DANIEL'S HARBOUR, N.L. (CP) - A small town in northwestern Newfoundland is reeling from a landslide four times the size of one it had just six months ago.
Officials are investigating what caused up to 120,000 cubic metres of earth to fall into the sea early Sunday in Daniel's Harbour. No one was injured, but Mayor Steve Carrey says several utility poles were swept into the ocean and a garage has been left dangling over a 30-metre cliff.
Carrey says he will have to expand a state of emergency that was declared in October after a smaller landslide in the same area.
That landslide prompted the evacuation of four homes and a grocery store, which serves as the town's only liquor store.
