STEPHENVILLE - Motorists need to be aware that moose are on the move, which was proven during the weekend with five collisions recorded in various locations by the Bay St. George District RCMP.

It was all part of a busy weekend for police with a total of 78 incidents recorded from Friday morning to Monday morning in the various zones throughout the district.

In the Stephenville zone, there was a vehicle/moose motor vehicle accident on the Hansen Highway; a youth was charged with uttering threats in the town; a report of damage to a vehicle in the town; a damage to property report in the town; a report of harassing phone calls in the town; a report of a break and enter into a cabin at Beach Street; a failure to remain at an accident scene in the town; two reports of theft of bicycles in the town; a vehicle/moose motor vehicle accident on the Trans-Canada Highway near Gallants; and a break and enter into a cabin in Spruce Brook.

In the Barachois Brook zone, a 26-year-old male resident of Stephenville Crossing was charged with assault; a 45-year-old male resident of Noel's Pond was arrested and charged with breach of an undertaking and probation with a bail hearing set for July 15; a property damage motor vehicle accident in Shallop Cove; a report of theft from Stephenville Crossing; and a vehicle/moose motor vehicle accident at Crabbes River.

In the Piccadilly zone, there was a report of theft of a generator in that community; a 51-year-old male of Point au Mal was charged with breach of probation; a complaint of harassing phone calls in Port au Port West; a 63-year-old female driver was charged with impaired driving as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Point au Mal; and a report of a moose/vehicle accident in Sheaves Cove.

In the Port aux Basques zone, there was a report of a property damage motor vehicle accident in the town; a complaint of harassing phone calls in the town; a compliant of an assault in Burnt Island; a property damage motor vehicle accident at MacDougall's Road; and a vehicle/moose motor vehicle accident on the Trans-Canada Highway.
