Corner Brook -
A Quebec man has been charged with two child pornography offences believed to have occurred in Corner Brook between Sept. 4, 2006 and July 22, 2007.
Tal Havis, 23, of Cote Saint-Luc, Que. is charged with possession of child pornography and possession of child pornography for the purpose of distribution.
He was not present when his matter was called in provincial court in Corner Brook Tuesday. Local duty counsel Lynn Cole represented Havis in court as an agent of his lawyer, veteran criminal lawyer Jeffrey Boro of Montreal.
Boro also represents disgraced financial planner Earl Jones, who is accused of bilking clients out of about $50 million.
Crown attorney Trina Bussey told Judge Kymil Howe she has been in communication with Boro, but has yet to fully review the amount of electronic and paper material involved in this case.
The matter has been set over until Dec. 8.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in Corner Brook laid the charges in provincial court Sept. 2 of this year, following an investigation stemming from a complaint received July 19, 2007. The subsequent investigation involved the RNC's criminal investigation division and the RNC's computer forensic unit.
