Piccadilly -
Two men are dead in a double shooting in Piccadilly which occurred in the early morning hours on Sunday.
The Bay St. George District RCMP were dispatched to the scene in Piccadilly at about 3:30 a.m. after receiving a call by a local resident of Piccadilly who reported hearing shots fired.
Sgt. Wayne Newell, RCMP media relations officer for Newfoundland and Labrador "B" Division, said a man in his mid 30's and a man in his late 40's from the Piccadilly area are both dead.
One died at the scene and the other succumbed to his injuries following transportation to Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville with cause of death to be determined by the chief medical examiner.
Asked what type of weapon was used, Newell said Sunday afternoon police were still in the early stages of their investigation and couldn't say at that time what type of firearm it was, but expected such information would be released in due course.
Questioned as to whether it was a murder-suicide as was rumored in the community, Newell said police are not in position to say whether it was or not at this time; however, he added police are not looking for any suspects in the matter.
Bay St. George RCMP, Major Crimes Units West and Central, and Corner Brook RCMP Forensic Identification Section were on the scene Sunday.
The investigation continues and more information will be released as it becomes available.
