CORNER BROOK Corner Brook filmmakers are hoping to accompany their locally made film at two U.S. film festivals in September.
“The Tentacle’s Claw” was directed and produced by husband-wife team, Tara Manuel and Michael Rigler, of Shadowy Souls production company.
The 68-minute film will show at the B-Movie Celebration Festival in Indiana, Sept. 14-16, and Atlanta Horror Film Fest Sept. 28-30.
“We need to be there,” Manuel said. “You need to stand up in front of your film. It’s a great opportunity to meet with filmmakers, producers and distributors — it is a business, we want to sell our product.”
Manuel applied to have the film screened at the Atlanta festival, while the film was sought out for the Indiana showing. A year before the film debuted in May 2012, a head programmer identified it and wanted it shown at the B-Movie Celebration.
The film, which tells the tale of a sea monster terrorizing a small town, was made on essentially no budget, said Manuel.
“Let’s put things in perspective — We’re competing against thousands of films with real budgets,” she said. “It’s really exciting and exceeding our expectations for the project.”
