City woman wins star grocer award

Judy Bennett, who’s been working for Colemans for 28 years, has been named one of 16 “Star Women in Grocery” by Canadian Grocer Magazine.

CORNER BROOK  Judy Bennett has been chosen as a winner of the “Star Women in Grocery” Award from Canadian Grocer Magazine.

The public relations employee for the Coleman Group of Companies based in Corner Brook was one of 16 winners who will appear in the magazine’s June issue.

Canadian Grocer Magazine is a publication that has covered grocery industry news since 1886. The Star Women Award, which began last year, is presented to women in the grocery industry for their innovation, influence, leadership and dedication.

Bennett has worked for Colemans since 1985 in various roles.

“Bennett has been influential in positioning Colemans as an advocate of healthy eating, particularly among children,” stated the magazine.

According to a prepared release from Colemans, commitment to community is one of the company’s core values.

“Judy strives to ensure that Colemans is an active participant in the communities we serve,” said the release.

Bennett will receive her award at the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers’ 51st grocery show held in Toronto later this year.  

Colemans has 12 stores in Newfoundland and was founded in 1934. The Coleman Group of Companies has grown to include a retail food division, wholesale division, retail furniture and clothing stores.
