Visual artist Alli Johnston's first solo exhibition titled Watercolours will be on display at JL Gallery on Broadway in Corner Brook until Oct. 12.

Visual artist Alli Johnston's first solo exhibition, Watercolours, opens Friday night at JL Gallery on Broadway.

The exhibition features a variety of works that she painted from 2009 to this year and includes some landscapes with a sprinkling of architecture and interiors.

“As I made selections for the show, I was struck by the repeated image of winter trees," said Johnston of her choices in a media release on the exhibition.

The exhibition includes three pieces depicting trees in snowy landscapes, each painted at a different time in the past five years. "The silence of a forest in winter has always resonated with me. I love the soft light and blue shadows of winter and always imagine that the trees are sleeping; resting up for spring under a blanket of snow,” she said.

The exhibition opens Friday night with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. It will be on display at the gallery until Oct. 12.
