CORNER BROOK — Dr. Ed Mercer says it’s no secret how much Western Memorial Regional medical imaging department has benefitted from the generosity of the hospital’s foundation and the people of this region who donate to it.
“We’ve been recipients of multiple gifts from (the foundation) and we always feel greatly indebted to them for what they have done for us,” said Mercer, a radiology physician at the Corner Brook hospital.
Donors can contribute to improving the health-care system on the west coast through the hospital foundation’s annual radiothon, taking place on CFCB throughout today.
This year the foundation is raising money to assist in purchasing new equipment for several different departments such as emergency, the intensive care unit, orthopedics and surgical.
The medical imaging department plans to use the radiothon funds toward a radio frequency generator, which is used to heat and destroy cancer cells in the treatment of liver, renal, lung and breast cancers.
