Heidi Coish named winner of Lions district speakoff

Winners in the Lions District N3 speak-off held in Stephenville on Saturday, April 26, 2014 include, from left, Alexis Locke, third place; Hiedi Coish, first place and Chandler Pafford, second place.

Speaking on the topic of stereotypes, Heidi Coish, a Level 3 student at Exploits High in Grand Falls-Windsor, was named winner of the Lions District N3 speakoff held in Stephenville Saturday.

She will now go on to compete in the Lions Multiple District N speak-off being held in Corner Brook at the end of May.

Chandler Pafford, a Level 3 student at Viking Trail Academy in Flowers Cove, was named the second place finisher with his speech on the dangers of reality television, while Alexis Locke, a Level 2 student at Elwood High School in Deer Lake placed third with her speech on personal finance courses for students.

Also competing in the speak-off were: Megan Snook, a Level 3 student at King Academy in Harbour Breton, who spoke on the topic bullying and Emily Bennett, a Level 1 student at Appalachia High in St. George’s, on the topic of caring for aging parents.

Lions club member Henry Hedderson, chairman of the speak-off, presented each with a plaque, along with a monetary award.
