Stephenville - Members of Students In Free Enterprise-Stephenville are gearing up for a busy month in February with a list of activities planned.
Causandra Walsh, president of the local organization, said the group has a goal of mobilizing university and college students around the world to make a difference in their communities while developing the skills to become socially responsible business leaders.
In Stephenville, the group is made up mainly of business students at College of the North Atlantic but is open to students in other fields of study as well.
The newest project for the organization is their "employ Bay St. George website." The project will create a website specially tailored to the Bay St. George region where employers can send their ads to be posted and employees, their resumÉs.
"Hopefully we can match up the employer and employee," Walsh said.
She said they are also hoping to set up a job fair.
Financial February
During the month of February the student members are hoping to help members of the public who need assistance, with online banking. They plan to hold three different sessions in February and team up with a person from debt and credit solutions.
As well, members of the group hope to go into the high schools in the area and teach Grade 11 and 12 students about student loans and tax reductions.
Singing valentines
Members will team up with music industry and performance and recording arts students at the college to provide a "singing valentines" service to the community and raise finances.
Walsh said this works by the students going out into the community and singing to a person whose spouse or special friend has purchased a singing valentine. The customer has a choice of the song they want sung to their valentine, which is accompanied by a chocolate and/or a rose.
This year the singing valentines will be delivered on Feb. 13.
Malawi project
The organization is expanding its Malawi project by getting businesses in the community to partner with their group by providing recyclables.
Walsh said they have a recycling program at the college to raise finances to help children with educational needs in Malawi, such as for school supplies and any extra money can be used for food and shelter.
