Council approves finance items

Coun. Bob Byrnes is hoping now that a tender for the clean up of three softball diamonds in Stephenville is approved the work will be done soon.

Boyd and Bungay Construction Ltd. was awarded the $61,020 contract for the repairs, caused by flood damage.

Council also awarded a contract to Harvey Gale and Son Limited repairs to the Carolina Avenue bridge at a cost of $30,041.05. The bridge was also damaged by flooding.

Approval was given for the town to tender for the purchase of a new loader. Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital Foundation was approved a grant of $1,000 for Radiothon 2009, taking place Oct. 2 and 3, and the town will give a $2,000 grant to Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador for infrastructure funding research.

Council also gave the OK for a representative attend the Urban Municipalities Committee meeting being held Aug. 21 and 22 in Port aux Basques, and for four delegates to attend the Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador convention Nov. 4-8 in Gander.
