Deer Lake -

The recreation committee in Deer Lake is searching for a long-term operator and plan for its municipal park.

The town owns the Deer Lake RV Park and Campground but a private operator has usually taken on the day-to-day business and maintenance of the facility.

"It seems like each year we're doing this over and over again. We're looking for an operator for the park each year.

"We'd like to have more of a long-term commitment," said recreation director Junior Pinksen.
The committee is currently interviewing three potential proposals for the park.

"The new goal is to get an operator or a proponent to go in and operate the park with more of a long-term vision and plan.

"We're looking for someone who wants to come in with a five- to 10-year plan and vision, and that way they can invest into the park and work with the Town of Deer Lake," Pinksen said.

He said the operation of the park with consistent leadership and vision would create a better business and allow relationships to develop with potential visitors to build one a year-after-year basis.

"Each year then, people would be accustomed to going back to the same owners and seeing enhancements of the Deer Lake municipal park," he said.

He said after the interview process is complete, the committee will make a recommendation to council and around mid-February, the town can award the operator position to the successful proposal.

The park is located off Nicholsville Road, on the beachfront of Deer Lake.

It consists of 35 camping areas and 10 spaces for recreational vehicles.
