Dramatic declines in the province's caribou population in recent years has caused alarm for outdoor enthusiasts and government alike.
Many feel the introduction of the eastern coyote to the province about two decades ago, and that species ability to strengthen its foothold on the island of Newfoundland, is a major factor in the dropping number of caribous - especially calves.
The province, meanwhile, has announced measures to study the caribou herds.
Star reporter Michael Rigler recently travelled into the backcountry of the White Bay area with some of those concerned in search of evidence of the caribou decline and the coyote presence.
