The Mounties say Terrance Payne, 27, and Timothy Gunn, 19, were arrested separately and without incident on Wednesday night.

Investigators credit numerous tips and sightings from the public in helping them apprehend the fugitives.

Both men had been at large since escaping from the West Coast Correctional Centre in Stephenville on Tuesday.

Police say they will face charges in the Bay St. George area.

The two had escaped from the prison in the early morning hours of Tuesday, digging a hole under a section of fence located behind a generator house in the prison’s courtyard.

Jennifer Tulk, director of communications with the Department of Justice, said the department is working to determine exactly how this happened.

“An investigation is underway to not only determine what happened here but to determine what measures will be taken once that’s complete,” she said.
