Cpl. Brian Pinksen was wounded by a roadside bomb during a routine patrol southwest of Kandahar on Aug. 22.
He died at a hospital in Germany on Monday.
Pinksen, a member of 2nd Battalion with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, was based in Corner Brook.

His body will travel along the Highway of Heroes to the coroner's office in Toronto.
A total of 152 Canadian soldiers have died as part of the Afghan mission since it began in 2002.
