Elderly man dies in Stephenville car accident

STEPHENVILLE  An 86-year-old man, a passenger in a car involved in a single vehicle accident in Stephenville Thursday, has died.

Three other senior adults, including the driver of the car which collided with a power pole, were still in hospital Friday.

Police say two survivors from the accident have life threatening injuries, while the other is listed in stable condition.

Following the crash on West Street near Westbridge House, which was reported to the Bay St. George RCMP at 1:16 p.m. Thursday, all occupants of the late model Ford Fusion were first taken to Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital for treatment.

On Friday afternoon police reported one person was still in hospital in Stephenville in stable condition, another in hospital in Corner Brook in critical condition and the other in a St. John’s hospital in critical condition.

The RCMP’s crash team was continuing its investigation on Friday afternoon.
