CORNER BROOK Former Corner Brook mayor Ray Pollett died Sunday evening, his daughter Nicole confirmed.
According to family friend and current city councillor Priscilla Boutcher, Mr. Pollett had been in failing health for the last few years and was a resident of the Corner Brook Long Term Care Home at the time of his death.
He was 77 years old.
Mr. Pollett served 16 years on city council, including 12 as mayor from 1985-1997. He was also chairperson of the Corner Brook Port Corporation, a group whose building on Riverside Drive now sports his name.
The Public Utilities Board, the Lions Club, the 1999 Canada Winter Games Committee, the Royal Canadian Legion and the Victorian Order of Nurses are among the long list of community and service groups Pollett had been involved with through the years.
