COPPERMINE BROOK Evelyn Burton’s July 1 long weekend got off to an interesting start last Friday morning.
Outside her Coppermine Brook cabin window, she spotted an unidentified object on the beach.
When she took a closer look, it seemed that the object was some sort of sea creature, possibly a shark.
“It gave an exciting start to the weekend,” she said. “People were amazed by it.”
Burton called Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) and a fishery officer was sent to evaluate the creature.
It appears to be a shark, but the species is not yet identified. The animal also did not have its head attached.
DFO could not release an information about the animal before press time.
Burton said she has not seen marine debris larger than a seal wash on shore in 15 years since she has had the cabin.
The creature was gone Tuesday morning. Burton assumes it washed away overnight.
