A Gambo man suspected of killing a man in Trinity, Bonavista Bay, in January has been released from jail.
Ivan Curtis King appeared in Newfoundland Supreme Court in St. John’s this morning for what was supposed to be a bail review hearing.
Instead, defence lawyer Jason Edwards told Justice James Adams that following discussions with Crown prosecutor Tina Walsh, the Crown has agreed to terms of release with strict conditions.
Walsh, who appeared from Grand Falls-Windsor via teleconference, confirmed the arrangement.
The conditions are that he report to RCMP in St. John's by telephone three times a week, remain in the city except to attend court in Gander, abide by a curfew, have no contact with two people listed, abstain from alcohol and drugs. He is also banned from entering the town of Trinity, Bonavista Bay.
King is due back in court in Gander for his three-day preliminary inquiry, which is set to begin July 25.
King was charged with manslaughter in the death of 58-year-old Winston Hunt on Jan. 13 in the tiny Bonavista Bay community.
Hunt’s body was found inside a home in Trinity around 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 13. His body was later transported to St. John's for an autopsy though police have not released the cause of death.
