The Bay St George RCMP is hoping for the assistance of the general public in solving a theft of industrial electrical wire, with an estimated value of about $6,000.

Each of the two large spools of electrical wire weighs about 1,100 pounds, so those who took it either used a forklift or unrolled the wire from the spools to handle it.

It was on Monday that the Newfoundland and Labrador Feed Grain Society reported the theft from the former Shur Gain Feeds operation at Port Harmon in Stephenville to the RCMP.

The complainant said it was sometime in the last month that someone had cut the bolt off the back door of the Shur Gain building at Port Harmon and stole the two large spools of electrical wire from inside.

Cpl. Howard Gale said the thieves could probably sell the wire as is or there's a good chance that it will be stripped for the copper wire inside and turned into a scrap yard.

Anyone with information regarding this theft is asked to contact the Bay St. George RCMP at (709) 643-2118, or CrimeStoppers at 1(800) 222-TIPS (8477).
