CORNER BROOK  The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has opened up more rivers to salmon angling in western Newfoundland.

DFO had closed 63 rivers in the region last week, but improved environmental conditions saw some of those rivers open earlier this week.

On Thursday morning, another series of rivers and streams re-opened, including Southwest Brook, Bottom Brook, Highlands River, Crabbe’s River, Flat Bay Brook, Little Barachois Brook and their tributary streams.

Also re-opened was the Great Codroy River, including Broom Brook, Ryan’s Brook and Mullchingnic Brook, the south branch of Great Codroy and the north branch of Great Codroy, including Upper Brook, Lower Brook.

Anglers can also wet their lines in the Little Codroy River, including Cooper’s Brook, Southern Brook and Western Brook, as well as in Bear Cove River, including Billy’s Pond Brook.

Further details on recreational fishing  can be found on the DFO website at http://www.nfl.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/NL/River_closures or by calling 709-772-4423.
