Clarenville RCMP have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with a home invasion that allegedly involved bear spray.

Shaun Garvey appeared in Clarenville provincial court on Monday and has been remanded in police custody, according to a news release issued by the RCMP.

On July 14, police responded to a home invasion in the community where a 59-year-old man was allegedly subdued with what was initially believed to have been bear spray. Two male suspects were said to have entered the home.

Garvey is facing seven charges — robbery with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, discharge of a volatile substance, break and enter, disguise with intent, and a pair of failure to comply with a probation order charges. He is due back in court Aug. 23.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to Clarenville RCMP.

    These are the same two that attacked and stole meds from this older gentleman. I commented earlier that when you thought human beings could not step lower, these two punks come along. Now is the time the justice system steps up and gives them their just reward.....maximun sentence, no parole and no time served credit. Law abiding citizens always pay the price for these low lifes....it's time to stop!
