STEPHENVILLE — A 52-year-old woman from Lourdes is facing a string of charges — including damaging police vehicles, threatening officers — as a result of incidents Saturday evening.

About 5:50 p.m. Saturday, Bay St. George RCMP received several complaints of a vehicle being driven erratically in the area of West Bay Centre on the Port Au Port Peninsula. The vehicle had struck a parked car, and fled the scene.

A woman matching the description of the vehicle's driver was later apprehended by police officers.

The woman then is alleged to have kicked out the rear side window of the police car, spit in an officer's face, and threatened the officer.

The woman was then placed in a different police vehicle and, while being driven back to the Stephenville RCMP detachment, she is alleged to have kicked out the rear side window of that vehicle, and set fire to the back seat of the police cruiser.

She also threatened to kill the officer.

She was transferred to a new police vehicle and brought to the Stephenville RCMP Detachment.

Once there, she was lodged into cells and assaulted another police officer.

The woman was held until sober, then released to appear on court in Stephenville Oct. 1.

She is facing three charges of assaulting a police officer, two charges of uttering threats, two charges of mischief, one charge of arson, and one charge of failure to stop or remain at the scene of an accident.
