The provincial government has provided $16,092 in financial support to Barry Group Incorporated (the Barry Group) to help expand its marketing presence in Europe and Asia, and undertake a new market diversification initiative.
A news release notes the project is made possible through the provincial Fisheries Technology and New Opportunities Program.
“Development of new markets and stability of current markets will benefit the Barry Group, and in turn, create stability for the company, its employees and the fish harvesters they work with,” said Darin King, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
The release states the Barry Group has identified evolving market issues for key pelagic and shellfish species. Although the company has exported those species for many years, it believes an expanded face-to-face market presence and a market diversification initiative will help the company.
“The funding will support us in travelling abroad to tap new markets and areas that weren’t previously available to us,” said Bill Barry, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Barry Group.
“Market development will lead to stability for processing workers and harvesters associated with our company.”
The Barry Group is planning to meet with existing and potential clients, as well attend key seafood trade shows in Europe and Asia. The company will also attend the inaugural Seafood Barcelona Show in October.

I never knew Bill Barry educated his children at home? Well if thats the case he certainly can afford to have the Barry Group pay that $16000 themselves. You would think that Bill being the family man he is and being an outstanding fatherly figure that his current children would speak to him reminding him of his stature in the community. I hope Mr. Barry steps up to the plate and rectifies this problem. If not then its a black eye on the Barry Group. There won"t be a woman in Corner Brook who would look him in the eye and trust him....... or man either. Business wise I mean. Shame on the Government.
