Women in the province will have an opportunity next month to obtain skills and knowledge to assist them in pursuing outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, hiking, backpacking and nature photography.
Sponsored by the Department of Environment and Conservation, the Becoming an Outdoors Woman program will be held at the Lions Max Simms Memorial Camp near Bishop’s Falls from Oct. 12 to 14.
“For 15 years, this program has encouraged women in our province to engage in outdoor pursuits and connect with nature and wildlife,” said Terry French, minister of environment and conservation. “Many of the women who participate in this program will take their skills and confidence beyond the workshops to engage in salmon fishing, moose and caribou hunting, and backcountry hiking. This program will provide an opportunity for the participants to join other members of their family in outdoor activities and make activities such as hunting and fishing a family event.”
The program begins noon on Friday, Oct. 12 and ends with lunch at noon on Sunday, Oct. 14.
Registration costs $225.00 and includes all meals, accommodations, and instructional materials. Participants must be 18 years of age to register and, although the program is geared towards women, the province says men are also welcome to participate.

All courses offered in the Becoming an Outdoors Woman program are taught at an introductory level.
