CORNER BROOK — Keith Cormier is vying for the position of Western Region vice-chief at the first Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nations election.
As someone who has over 25 years experience as leader of a national financial firm, as well as a background as a certified coach in human relations, Cormier believes he has the skills necessary to move the newly formed band forward.
Cormier retired from full-time work in May, something he hopes will give him the time necessary to devote to the position.
Running under the motto “Transparency, Integrity and Responsiveness,” Cormier said part of his goal is to make programs and services available to all members of the band, as well as strengthening ties with aboriginal groups throughout Atlantic Canada.
“I am running in this election for our people and the many generations to follow,” Cormier said .
The election is slated for October 23.
