The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Corner Brook Region is continuing to investigate an assault complaint, which also resulted in an officer being injured.

On Monday at approximately 4:15 p.m., RNC Patrol Services responded to a disturbance inside a home on Atlantic Avenue.

It was reported that a man was inside a home assaulting a female resident. Upon police arrival, the  suspect confronted RNC officers, resulting in one of the officers being assaulted.

Pepper spray, a defensive tool available to RNC officers, was utilized to subdue the man and as a result, he was arrested. One of the officers involved in the incident sustained minor injuries to the face.

The female resident inside the home was not injured by the suspect.

The accused, a 36-year-old resident of Corner Brook, is  being held at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital for psychiatric evaluation. Charges of assaulting a peace officer and assault are expected.
