CORNER BROOK — Western Health is reporting some good news in its recruitment efforts.
The health authority issued a press release on Wednesday to say a number of physicians have officially accepted offers of employment and have already started or will start their employment in 2012.
The number of new hires is being reported by the CBC as 20.
“We are very pleased to recruit this group of new physicians to Western Health”, said Dr. Ken Jenkins, vice-president of medical services with Western Health.
“Physicians play a key role within the health and community services system and each vacancy is important to us. We have been working very hard to recruit and welcome these new physicians to our region and Western Health.”
The new physicians include, family physicians for areas throughout the region including: Port Saunders, Bonne Bay, Port aux Basques, Stephenville, Jackson’s Arm/Pollard’s Point, Deer Lake and Corner Brook. As well, three specialists have been hired including a pathologist and a radiologist for Western Memorial Regional Hospital and an anesthetist for Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital.
Another group of physicians are currently being recruited to begin practise in 2013. They include two emergency room physicians, a pediatrician, a gastroenterologist and an anesthetist for Western Memorial Regional Hospital and a family physician for Corner Brook.
