CORNER BROOK The second of two young men charged in a drug bust in Deer Lake last May has been fined and sentenced to house arrest.
Timothy Ball, 21, was given a six-month conditional sentence and 12 months of probation for possession for the purposes of trafficking and was handed a $1,000 fine for possession of a controlled substance when he appeared in provincial court in Corner Brook Friday.
Ball, the son of Deer Lake Mayor Dean Ball, was also given a 10-year firearms prohibition and ordered to pay a total of $250 in victim fine surcharges.
The second person involved was fined and given probation for possession earlier this month.
The two were arrested by RCMP and RNC joint forces drug team officers in Deer Lake following the search of a parked vehicle on a parking lot off Main Street last spring. As part of the sentencing, 6.5 grams of cocaine was forfeited to the Crown, along with a quantity of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
