DEER LAKE — Police are quashing a rumour the accident that killed a 35-year-old man from Deer Lake Tuesday evening was caused by a loose vehicle wheel.
RCMP Sgt. Marc Columbe said an accident reconstructionist working the investigation was able to confirm that an ambulance that was involved in the accident did indeed have all of its wheels attached to the chassis.
“What we’re thinking is that someone may have seen a spare tire on the ground, post collision, which is where the rumour may have come from,” said Columbe. “Our big concern was making sure all the wheels were on the vehicle and they were.”
The accident took place Tuesday evening. Police say a westbound ambulance carrying two paramedics and a patient was involved in the accident with another vehicle near Pynn’s Brook on the Trans-Canada Highway.
Police believe the car drifted into the passing lane, colliding with the ambulance. They say the investigation will continue.
