Vehicle hits moose on Corner Brook's ring road

A motorist encountered two moose on the Lewin Parkway Sunday night, swerved to avoid a cow and hitt the smaller calf.

The driver of a car struck a calf moose after swerving to avoid the cow moose accompanying it on the Lewin Parkway Sunday evening.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to the scene in the area of the intersection with O’Connell Drive at around 8:20 p.m.

The driver was treated for minor injuries and released from Western Memorial Regional Hospital. The young moose was killed and the automobile sustained extensive damage.

Provincial wildlife officers also attended the scene.

The RNC advises motorists to use extreme caution when operating vehicles in this area, especially during nighttime hours.
