RNC arrest youth accused of using machete in threat

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Corner Brook Region is continuing to investigate a report of an assault with a weapon, uttering threats, carrying a concealed weapon and breach of court order.

On Tuesday at about 10:30am RNC Patrol Services received a complaint from a business in the Murphy Square area. An employee of this business had reported that he had approached two male youths for acting suspicious.

According to the employee, one of them suddenly produced a large machete and threatened the employee with it. The youths then ran from the store and were apprehended by RNC Street Patrol members with the assistance of the RNC Police Dog Service unit.

As a result, a 16-year-old teen resident of Corner Brook has been charged with assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Breach of a Court Order. He has been held in custody for a court appearance this afternoon.

The second youth, a 13-year-old boy form of Corner Brook, was released without charges to the custody of his parents.

RNC Patrol Services is continuing to investigate this incident.
