The new Searston Gut Bridge will be officially opened tomorrow.

The old Bailey bridge was condemned in November 2010. Codroy Valley residents and business owners lobbied government for the repair or replacement of the bridge. Although an alternate crossing was available at Upper Ferry, many business owners felt the pinch from lost customers after the Bailey closed.

Paul Davis, Minister of Transportation and Works, will be joined tomorrow by Joan Burke, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills and MHA for St. George's-Stephenville East, at a ceremony at the Transportation and Works highway depot in Doyles, on Route 406. The depot is located approximately 300 metres along Route 406 from the Trans-Canada Highway intersection where the Mountainside General Store is located.

The event will take place at 10:30 a.m.
