CORNER BROOK — The youth charged with brandishing a machete when approached by a store employee at Wal-Mart Tuesday morning will have a bail hearing Friday afternoon.

The 16-year-old boy was charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats, carrying a concealed weapon and a breach of a court order.

According to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, the teen allegedly took out a large machete concealed in his clothing and threatened the employee with the bladed weapon when the store worker approached two male youth for acting suspiciously around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The two youth ran from the store and were later apprehended by the RNC with the help of its police dog.

The second boy, 13, was released to the custody of his parents without being charged with any offence.

Teens are outta control because The Government allows kids to leave home when they are 16, whereas it Should be 18 at least their a little more matured. There is nothing the police or child youth workers can do to make them go home unless they get in trouble then the police will do their job, only for the Judge to let them away with it. If the law don`t start cracking down on these kids were gonna continue to see alot more houses, bussinesses and cars being broken into. We as parents/gaurdians got No Say into what a 16 year old does anymore.

Reading about this incident (and day-to-day similar incidents), you have to wonder what's wrong with Corner Brook socially. We seem far too small a place to be seeing so many incidents of serious violence. It's fortunate that both the RNC and RCMP have headquarters here; honestly, we need that kind of police presence. They seem to have a busy time of it.

We live in a society that allows Government to reach into our homes and make decisions on how we raise and discipline our kids. Parents are not allowed to discipline kids anymore and the kids today, with their still developing minds, have control of the situation and rule the roost. Is it any surprise that these kids are running out of control?
