CORNER BROOK — The youth charged in connection with a fire that resulted in another boy being badly burned nearly a year ago has pleaded guilty to criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

The two boys were 13 years old at the time of the incident that took place in a wooded area near Ford’s Road on Corner Brook’s east side last Nov. 10.

The teen who was charged entered a guilty plea when he appeared in youth court in Corner Brook Wednesday afternoon. A pre-sentence report has been ordered and he will be back in court for the sentencing portion of the process Dec. 11.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and the Corner Brook Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in the woods and found the boy screaming in pain in a nearby church parking lot.

The injured youth’s treatment, which included a lengthy stay at the Janeway Children’s Hospital in St. John’s, required a series of skin graft surgeries.
