The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary apprehended a man believed to have violated the terms of his parole in Corner Brook Wednesday evening.
The man, who is from Corner Brook, was taken into custody at a residence on Cedar Place after the police received a tip that the alleged parole violator was at the home.
Parole refers to the conditions a convicted person is subject to when granted early release from custody while serving a federal prison sentence, which has to be at least two years in duration. Anyone found to violate their parole conditions could have to serve the remainder of their sentence in prison, rather than in the community.
The man, whose identity or reason for initial incarceration was not released by the RNC, was being held at the Her Majesty’s Penitentiary cells in Corner Brook as of Thursday morning while his file was dealt with by the parole services division of the Correctional Service of Canada.
There are no new criminal charges filed against the man.
