CORNER BROOK  Two men arrested in a highway cocaine bust near Stephenville earlier this week have been released from custody.

Wilfred Hunt, 31, of Topsail and Levi Robert Gunnarson, 25, of Edmonton, Alta. were arrested Tuesday after the RCMP seized two kilograms of the drug during a vehicle stop on the Trans-Canada Highway.

They were both charged with trafficking in cocaine and with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

The two were scheduled to have a bail hearing in Corner Brook provincial court Friday morning.

That hearing was not needed after Crown attorney David Mills and duty counsel Lynn Coles, who represented the men, were able to work out conditions for their release.

Gunnarson was released on a recognizance with a cash deposit of $10,000, while Hunt was released on a recognizance with a cash deposit of $2,500.

Other conditions of their release include having no contact with one another, nor with any person who has a criminal record.

Both of their matters have been set over until Jan. 29.
