CORNER BROOK A 72-year-old Deer Lake man has been committed to stand trial in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice for a sex-related charge involving a young child.
Thomas Duval was arrested by the RCMP in Deer Lake on a Canada-wide warrant in November 2010.
The charge of indecent assault originated in Toronto against a six-year-old girl between the years 1969 and 1971.
There was a stay of proceedings of a sex assault charge involving a six-year-old boy in 1988.
Earlier this month, a decision resulting from a preliminary inquiry held in the Ontario Court of Justice committed Duval to stand trial in the upper court.
He is now expected to be arraigned in the Superior Court of Justice in late December.
Duval, who was living in a seniors cottage in Deer Lake at the time of his arrest, was escorted back to Ontario by members of the Toronto Police Services upon his arrest.
He subsequently posted a $5,000 bail, conditions of which permitted him to return to Deer Lake.
