The Deer Lake Mounties say the crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. when a small car travelling south collided with a northbound Department of Transportation snowplow.
The incident resulted in the deaths of two occupants in the car. The pair were the only occupants of the small vehicle.
Police say road and weather conditions at the time of the collision were "less than ideal," with falling snow and slippery pavement.
The snow plow operator was not injured.
Police and other emergency personnel remain on scene at this hour, and are investigating to determing the exact cause of the crash.
The RCMP now advises rhat the Northen Penninsula Highway near the Cormack intersection is re-opend, however traffic is restricted to one lane. Motorists can expect delays while the police investigation continues.
Drivers are also urged to slow down and drive accroding to road conditions.
