STEPHENVILLE CROSSING  Residents of Stephenville Crossing had their mill rate lowered from 7.5 to 6.5 mills to compensate for the increase in property assessments.

That was one of the highlights of Budget 2013 that was adopted recently by the town’s council.

The balanced budget has $1,478,128.29 in revenues and expenditures.

With the one-mill decrease, property owners will still see a slight increase in property tax, but all other tax rates remain the same as in 2012.

Council has submitted applications to the provincial government under the 90/10 provincial/municipal application process for the paving of Hogan Crescent, Gale Drive and Brakes Lane. Council is aggressively pursuing a new fire truck to provide better protection to the citizens of Stephenville Crossing.

The town council reminds taxpayers the town offers a 12-month payment plan, for which residents can contact the town office to set up.
