CORNER BROOK  A 17-year-old boy from Corner Brook is expected to appear in provincial court today to answer to several charges including uttering threats and extortion.

At 3 p.m. on Jan. 10 the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary received a complaint from a Massey Drive couple that their vehicle had been taken without their consent. They also reported that the person responsible for taking the vehicle threatened to cause damage to it if a sum of money was not paid to him.

It’s also alleged that the accused assaulted the owner of the vehicle after he had returned it to him. The vehicle was not damaged in the incident.

The boy was arrested at about 4:15 p.m. on Jan. 11 and charged with assault, theft of motor vehicle, extortion, uttering threats and breaching court orders. He was held in custody and attended court via tele-conference on Jan. 12 and was remanded for a court appearance today.
